The Friends of Los Osos Library has a tradition of creatively supporting our library and patrons, and in the process raising money to provide even more support for the library. We also provide a great way to recycle donated books and magazines - a win-win for all!

Used Book Sales

Friends of Los Osos Library book sale
Our big events are our used books sales, held four times a year in the library parking lot. In additional to hardback and paperback books, we sell DVDs, CDs, and great bargain-priced books for kids! We welcome your donation of clean, undamaged books. Our next sale is scheduled for August 19 from 9-1 in the library parking lot. "Buck a Bag" starts at noon. Additional 2017 Sale Date: November 18. Rain cancels.
Here are our donation guidelines: *Friends of Los Osos Library welcomes donation of books, DVDs, and CDs for our book sales. We appreciate gently used hardbacks and paperbacks that are not damaged or yellowed.
*Non-fiction books which are time sensitive should be recent publications, not more than 5 years old. For example: Medical, Science, Dictionaries and encyclopedias, Travel, Business, Computer manuals, Textbooks
*Please, no cassette or VHS tapes
*Magazine donations may be dropped off in the box just outside the front door of the library during library hours. Guidelines for magazine donations are posted on the box.
*Unusable books can be placed in your blue recycling bin.

Express Books
Recently released books - fiction and nonfiction - available at no charge for a two week loan. These books eventually find their way into the library's regular collection.

Magazine Sales
If you like an occasional magazine read, but don't want to spring for a subscription, we may have what you are looking for. Recent magazines are available for purchase at the library for 50 cents each. If you would like to donate magazines, a box is provided just outside the front door. Make sure that weekly magazines are no more than three weeks old and monthly magazines no more than three months old.

Overdue: A Brief History of the Los Osos Branch Library
Overdue tells the story of the development of the Los Osos library from a single room in a Baywood Park resident's home over sixty years ago to the facility it is today. Written by former Friends' president Sally Marchand, in collaboration with Ardith Wagner and Dorothy Dana, it is more than a history of a building!
